The Environmental Protection Act (1990) imposes a Duty of Care on the handling of all waste which affects anyone who is a Waste:
If you Store waste, treat waste or recycle waste.
Primary responsibility for the handling of waste is down to the waste producer who must ensure that waste is stored securely and transferred to or by an authorised party only.
All waste transferred must issued with waste transfer note (WTN) in which the waste the waste must be accurately described.
Individual Waste Transfer Note’s can be used for each transfer or you can use a season ticket to cover multiple transfers of the same type of waste to or from the same handler.
All WTN’s must be kept for a period of at least two years.
