Registration requirements

If you are a producer of hazardous waste in England or Wales you will need to register your premises annually with the Environment Agency.

You must do this before any waste is moved from your premises.

Registration is not required if the hazardous waste you produce is less than 200kg per year.

What are your responsibilities?

  • All hazardous waste must be stored securely in suitable containers.
  • Written instructions to all employees on hazardous waste storage and disposal must be made available.
  • Handling and storage must only be carried out by authorised and trained staff.
  • Waste must only be disposed of at facilities authorised to accept hazardous waste.
  • Hazardous waste consignment notes must be completed for each transfer from your premises.
  • All consignment notes must be kept for a minimum of three years.
