Waste transfer notes (Duty of Care)
The Environmental Protection Act (1990) imposes a Duty of Care on the handling of all waste which affects anyone who is a Waste:
- Producer
- Transporter
- Importer
If you Store waste, treat waste or recycle waste.
Primary responsibility for the handling of waste is down to the waste producer who must ensure that waste is stored securely and transferred to or by an authorised party only.

 The landfill Regulations requiring pre-treatment of waste came into force on 30th October 2007.
Please read below some of the requirements that are involved.
Prior to waste being disposed of at landfill:
Due care and attention must be taken to help reduce waste quantity.
As the waste producer the onus and responsibly is on you to treat your waste at source or arrange to have your waste treated for you.

Since the 6th of April 2008 SWMP’s are now a legal requirement in England for construction projects worth over £300,000. What is a SWMP? A SWMP is a document outlining the waste management methods for the delivery and disposal throughout all stages of a construction project costing £300,000 and above.

 Have you ever tried to apply for a skip permit???
I ran an experiment today and the results were shocking to say the least.
I sat down as someone with a good knowledge of the waste industry, and the problems I came across baffled even me...
I spent lengthy periods of time on the phone trying to find the right department as most councils do not have a dedicated line for skip hire permits.
Once finally put though to the relevant department I was met by high prices and poor explanations. Most councils have a 3 day application period, so I was unable to get my waste collected until they were ready, GREAT.

When you get up on Monday morning and the first thing you’re faced with is a problem, you know it’s just going to be one of those weeks.
On Monday we came in to find not one but two of our Clearance vehicles with flat tyres, great start.
Then on Wednesday one of our Clearance Teams got clamped by a cowboy parking company.

 As of the 1st January 2002 all Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) including CFC’s, must be removed from refrigeration equipment before recycling. This includes the ODS within the cooling system and the insulating foam inside the walls and doors.
Most manufacturers stopped using CFCs in 1994, but the alternative proved to be similarly environmentally damaging HCFCs for several years after. The average lifespan of a domestic fridge is ten to fifteen years which means that even today, most fridges being disposed of contain at least one kind of ODS. Read More »
